Stump Grinding & Brush Removal

Stumps taken below grade and overgrowth hauled off, so the spot can go back to lawn.

A stump left in the lawn is a mower hazard, a trip hazard, and a long-term home for carpenter ants and fungus. Grinding it out takes an hour or two and puts that square of yard back into use.

The process

  • Utilities marked before the machine touches the ground
  • Stump ground six to eight inches below grade, deeper on request
  • Visible surface roots ground down where they cross the lawn
  • Grindings raked back or hauled off, hole backfilled with topsoil
  • Area raked smooth and ready for seed

Brush and overgrowth

We also clear the stuff that accumulates where nobody looks: fence-line brush, volunteer maples behind the garage, storm debris piles, and old shrub rows that have outgrown the house. It gets cut, loaded, and hauled — you don't get left with a pile.

Putting grass back

Once the hole is backfilled, the spot is ready for seed. Doing it in early fall gives the best take. Ask us to fold it into a cleanup or overseeding visit and the whole lawn evens out together.

Common Questions

How deep do you grind a stump?
Six to eight inches below grade for most lawn areas, deeper if you plan to plant a new tree or lay sod in that spot. Surface roots running out from the stump can be ground down too.
What happens to the grindings?
We can rake them back into the hole and crown it, or haul them off and backfill with topsoil so the spot can be seeded right away. Grindings make decent mulch for a back bed if you want them.
Can you clear an overgrown fence line?
Yes. Brush, volunteer saplings, and years of growth along a fence or garage get cut, hauled, and the ground left rakeable. It's one of the more satisfying jobs we do.
